Tyre, NY -- Some residents aren't happy about it, but councilmembers in a Seneca County town are fully supporting plans by Rochester developer Wilmorite to build a Casino and Resort in their town near the Thruway.
The town board in Tyre has unanimously approved a resolution urging the state Gaming Commission to award a license to the casino project. The board also approved a formal "host community" agreement and a site plan for the development.
Some residents recently challenged the zoning process for the casino and lost in court. An appeal is pending.
Plans call for a $350 million destination/resort project, featuring a casino, hotel and spa. It would draw more than 3.3 million annual visitors.
