First Recipients Chosen for MCC Scholarship Named for Slain Firefighters

Rochester, NY -- Two Monroe Community College students are the first recipients of a scholarship named for the West Webster firefighters shot to death last Christmas Eve.

Matthew Speer and Cory Thayer both plan to pursue careers as first responders, following in the footsteps of Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka, an MCC alumnus and student respectively.

Nearly 40 individuals and groups from across the community helped raise more than $40,000 to endow the scholarship.
